What is Reiki?
Reiki is an ancient healing technique based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and around us.  If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are likely to feel stress or become sick.  If the energy is high,we are more capable of being happy and healthy. 

Reiki treats the whole person including body,emotions, mind and spirit and creates feelings of relaxation, peace, security and well-being. 
 
Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of healing and a wonderful way to bring harmony and balance to one’s life.  Reiki complements any science-based medical or therapeutic treatments.  Practitioners are found in hospitals, hospice and private practice. 
 
Reiki was rediscovered early last century by Dr. Mikao Usui and Usui Reiki is considered the foundation of all forms of Reiki practiced worldwide. Dr. Usui aimed to live by his Principles of Reiki (below) and Reiki practitioners carry on this tradition.

I will be kind to people and every living thing.
 
Reiki practitioners do not diagnose conditions, nor do they prescribe substances or perform medical
treatment, nor interfere with the treatment of a licensed medical professional.  Reiki promotes healing by creating a sense of deep relaxation and balancing of
energy.

Karuna Reiki® is a system of Reiki that evolved out of Usui and Tibetan Reiki at the International Center for Reiki Training (www.reiki.org).  The Sanskrit word Karuna is used in Hinduism, Buddhism and Zen. It can be translated to mean "compassionate action". This energy is very powerful but also very gentle and kind.  It can work together with Usui Reiki to bring about healing at very deep levels when necessary. Remember, Reiki can do no harm and the energy works to bring about healing for the highest good of the person receiving it.  Karuna Reiki® is especially beneficial for emotional issues, past trauma, addiction issues, and fear and panic.  Karuna Reiki® helps us to bring peace into our lives, feel empowered and manifest our goals.

Reiki is a holistic therapy, which means it deals with the whole person, whether the surface issue is physical, mental/emotional or spiritual.
 
What's a Reiki session like?

 A Reiki session is very peaceful and relaxing. The client remains fully clothed and generally is reclined on a Reiki table or in another comfortable position.  A treatment typically lasts about one hour. The practitioner places her hands gently on the client or just above.  Reiki creates a sense a deep relaxation where healing can take place.  People have reported a reduction or ceasing of pain, more restful sleep, reduced anxiety and other positive effects during and after a Reiki treatment. Reiki is extremely gentle, yet can yield powerful results. Please see Reiki Stories for some accounts of Reiki healing.

My Reiki sessions with animals take place at the animal's home or barn for their comfort and feeling of security.  I also offer Distance Treatments for animals who fear strangers or in emergency situations when getting there in person is not possible.  Please see the Reiki for Animals page for more information about animal Reiki.
 
I am fully insured and a member of the International Association of Reiki Professionals and the International Natural Healers' Association as well as a registered member of the International Center for Reiki Training.  I hold a B.S. degree in Psychology from Springfield College, where balancing Spirit, Mind &Body has been the philosophy since 1885.
