 Reiki for Animals
Reiki helps dogs, cats, horses, birds, and any other household or farmyard animal, as well as wildlife.

Animals respond especially well to Reiki. It is always their choice whether or not to receive treatment (although so far I've never had complete refusal!) as well as how the treatment will be administered. Some will come right over and allow me to place my hands gently on them. Others prefer to be treated with my hands slightly above them or from a short distance. Both methods are equally beneficial to your animal. Reiki energy flows to where it is most needed, so even if we can't determine the root cause of a problem, it will be treated. Many animals sigh or yawn and become very relaxed during a treatment. For animals that are fearful of strangers or very skittish, extremely small or who live far away, I also offer Distance Reiki Treatments. Distant Treatments are also appropriate when there is a more urgent situation since they can usually be done within a day of being scheduled. They are also good for maintenance between in-person treatments. Animal Reiki appointments take place at the home or barn of the animal, for their comfort and security. It's recommended that the animal initially be treated 4 times within a week. After that, we can see how they are progressing and determine the appropriate course of further treatment. People often notice a change in their animal soon after the first treatment; whether it be a more relaxed state, return to eating/sleeping habits or more energy. Many animal caretakers decide to learn Reiki Level I or II so that they may treat their companion on their own. This is a wonderful way to connect with and help your animal maintain wellness. Another benefit is that you can treat yourself as well! Classes are taken in several hours over a day or two and can be taught to anyone with the desire to learn. See the Reiki Classes page for more information about taking a Reiki class with me.

What Reiki can do for your animal companion:Promote relaxation, contentment and an overall sense of well-being Accelerate post-surgical recovery Help relieve pain and discomfort Alleviate symptoms of disease Reduce stress Help calm fearful or aggressive animals Improve emotional and behavior problems Provide comfort and support to dying animals - Complement any therapy, allopathic or holistic, that your animal is undertaking
Of course, while Reiki is a powerful healing system on its own, it is also a wonderful complement to other therapies that may be helping the animal to recover. It is not meant as a substitute for veterinary care. Always consult your veterinarian about the best course of medical treatment for your animal.

The newest member of our family, Charlie!! He came home last June after being pulled from a high-kill shelter by the amazing folks at DoubleDog Rescue (go to www.petfinder.com and search them). As you can see, he's still got a touch of inner turmoil, but
the kids and I give him Reiki and he LOVES it (of course)!
