Three Healing Messages of Autumn
Autumn
is a special time. Many of us can feel the magic in the air; days are
shorter, but more colorful and often brisk. There’s something uniquely
hopeful and melancholy all at once in the Fall. . .a time of harvest but
also of endings. Like Autumn, life is colorful, drab, bountiful,
sparse, brisk, warm, soft, crunchy, happy and sad. We can learn so much
by simply observing nature. Here are three lessons in wellness
straight from the Earth this Autumn:
HARVEST:
Take stock of the bounty in your life. Make a list of all that is good
and plentiful. Over the spring and summer, what have you learned; how
have you grown? Take time to reflect on how it is you’ve come to have
the abundance you do have in life. Want more abundance? Know that it
will come with timely ‘planting’, careful ‘cultivating’, daily tending
and patience.
STORE: Once
you’ve harvested, imagine placing all of that knowledge, bounty and
abundance in a special compartment inside your heart. Add to it
whenever you can and on dark, cold days, it will be there for you to
draw from. Let it fill you from head to toe as much as possible. Know
that you are never without. (And may I suggest reading the children’s
book Frederick by Leo Leoni, which is a beautiful representation of
this.)
RELEASE:
Let negative thoughts and patterns that no longer serve you fall away
like leaves off the mighty oak. Let them float gently away. Whenever
you see leaves falling this autumn, imagine that they are your troubles,
concerns, etc. Once they have been released, just let them be. Like
the oak, don’t try to grow new leaves right away. Give yourself time to
rest and just be as you are. Renewal will come in time. For now, just
release and be still.
